Week 7 : Challenges of achieving Sustainable Development
Salam everyone, for this week, Prof. Suhaimi discussed a topic that is very weigthy to the heart, in my opinion which is the Challenges of Sustainable Devolopment. SDGs may seem like oh, green energy or "Go Green" but it is more than meets the eye, its beyond that. Its deeply tied to social justice, economics, governance and power. Once you start digging and click all the clips together, that you'll realise the greater truth aren't always pleasing to the eye.
One topic that kept coming up in our discussions was inequality. Many people around the world still don’t have access to basic needs like clean water, food, healthcare, and education. That’s not just unfair it’s heartbreaking. It made me realize that sustainable development isn’t just about saving the planet; it’s also about fixing the systems that have left so many people behind for so long.
Another important point was realizing that unsustainability isn’t accidental. It’s not just bad luck or poor planning. A lot of it is built into systems that prioritize short-term profits, corporate interests, and elitism over people and the planet. These issues all stem from the same roots. This made me see that sustainability isn’t just a technical problem, it’s a moral one too.
And then, there’s the environment. We’ve treated Earth like an endless resource, even though it’s been telling us for years that it’s not. Now, we’re seeing the consequences—extreme weather, species going extinct, water shortages. The scary part is that the people who are suffering the most are often the ones with the least power to change things.
I hope, that these challenges in the near future can be tackled, as it is really heartbreaking to witness all of these disasters to be happenin' in the big 2025.
