Week 5: Sejahtera as local Concept of Sustainable Development
Salam everyone! Back again with another blog. Since we've learned about Sejahtera the previous lesson. In this lesson, Our Prof. took a dive into the topic in a more insight and deeper focus into this local concept of sustainable development.
What Sejahtera Really Means
Sejahtera is about living a life that’s:
-
Peaceful – finding calm within and harmony around us.
-
Safe and Secure – free from harm and injustice.
-
Prosperous – having good health, wealth, and spiritual growth.
-
Spiritually Connected – building a strong relationship with Allah and His creation.
It’s a well-rounded lifestyle that balances intellectual, physical, emotional, societal, and spiritual well-being.
In short: It’s life with soul.
Localising Sustainability in Our Own Way
We also learned about "localising" sustainability. Instead of just copying what other countries do, we:
-
Adapt to Malaysian values
-
Respect Islamic principles
-
Stay connected to community needs
Localising sustainability means doing what’s best for our people, our environment, and our future.
Daily Practices of Sejahtera
Here’s how we can live Sejahtera every day:
-
Reduce waste and live moderately
-
Show love and justice in every relationship
-
Connect with nature and respect all living beings
-
Strengthen our iman, takwa, and good character
Sustainability isn’t just about what we do, it’s about who we become. Sejahtera taught me that true change starts from the heart. When we live with sincerity, balance, compassion, and faith, we don’t just protect the planet we protect ourselves too.
