Week1: Introduction to Sustainable Development
Salam everyone, for week 1 the course began on a taaruf session , where all of us need to share about ourselves. Prof Dr. Suhaimi provided us a youtube video for us to watch. The content of that video, Our Prof. mentioned about what are the core features of sustainable devolopment. " Development that meets the needs of present without compromising the ability of future generation to meet their own needs ".
It sounds boring at first and super duper cliche, but Prof. explain the three principles to follow in SDG, which are :-
i. Living within the earth's capacity.
ii. Understanding the connections between the economy, society and the enviroment.
iii. Ensuring fair distribution of resources and opportunities for current and future generations.
In the session, Prof. introduced the concept of System Thinking, which is different from traditional thinking. System thinking helps us understand complex issues by considering the bigger picture and how different are connected. This approach makes me really take into a perspective, that things like climate change, I know theyre real, but i havent really thought that it would be this important, for instances like poverty and inequality which are prominent and often talked about.
Additionally, we learned about the evolution of sustainable development, which started with unsustainable practices, then moved to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and now includes the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
People - Ending poverty and hunger in all forms.
Planet - Protecting natural resources and the climate for future generations.
Prosperity - Ensuring everyone can lead fulfilling and prosperous lives.
Peace - Promoting peaceful, just, and inclusive societies.
Partnership - Strengthening global cooperation for sustainable development.
